In a world that children know, fast food and convenience foods have become a staple of their diet. Back in the day when I was a kid I had no idea how to cook any food and was totally dependent on mother for food.
One day my mom went on the road and my dad was in charge of feeding the children. I was excited about all the restaurants we eat because I knew that my dad could not cook anything. To my surprise he decided to make spaghetti. How can it be bad to make spaghetti, all you need to do is throw some pasta in boiling water, boil and add the sauce. Well as I figured out my dad does not know the difference between the ½ teaspoon salt and ½ cup of salt. This proved to be the worst spaghetti I've ever eaten. When my mom got home I was so happy to see her and begged me to learn how to cook so Dad would not the next time you go on the trip.
I'd love to see my children make lasagna for lunch. Lot's of meat, pasta and hand dripping with cheese. Although this is what I strive for too much reality we have to start with something that is very easy to do and that will fit into our budget. The first meal they make should be something you are familiar with, but also can call their own. Nothing could be worse for a child than you already do a meal and have a brother or sister say yours is better. Success comes in small steps.
Think about the foods your children enjoy eating. Sometimes these foods can be combined together to create new foods that adults think is strange, but kids will love. My children like hard tacos, they used soft taco eaters, but they suddenly switched to a hard shell. They also like spaghetti or any type of pasta.
first meal of our children were together was spaghetti tacos. I know this sounds very strange, these two ingredients really work well together. They are easy to make. basis of this dish is a pasta substitute for meat. Taco seasoning can be used to flavor the pasta after it is cooked, or you can use salsa or pasta sauce selection is what kids want. Watch children closely as they shred the lettuce, and I always buy shredded cheese for this dish.
I have to put shredded lettuce and cheese on a plate, and I actually baked with pasta shells and place them on another plate.
They gather the rest of the taco the way they want and watch them eat all the tacos, one by one. second time they make this dish I have my two children sharing the duties.
This is an easy meal they can call their own and will not break your budget.
